Plaza based sports and financial bookmaker Spreadex has smashed betting records throughout June thanks to the World Cup and the launch of its new fixed odds betting service.

The spread betting and fixed odds betting firm saw record levels of sports bets placed last month resulting in a 15.83% increase in sports business compared to its previous highest levels set in March this year.

The company also recorded its highest ever number of unique bettors and a best-ever level of new account recruits – all this despite England’s dismal performances on the pitch.

Spokesman Andy MacKenzie said: “The World Cup is the biggest betting event on the globe and it always helps when matches are shown on terrestrial television rather than satellite TV, but we’ve been surprised at the upturn in business.

“Existing and new customers really seem to have taken to the fact that we are now the only website where you can place sports fixed odds bets and spread bets as well as financial spread bets from the same account.

“England’s early exit doesn’t seem to have had a negative impact. In fact we’ve had higher numbers of bets placed on many matches featuring other countries rather than the games involving the Three Lions.”

The firm, which has offices in St Albans and Liverpool, has also seen healthy bet levels in its financial trading room and on its ShortsandLongs financial spread betting platform.

Mr MacKenzie added: “With further product improvements coming soon, including accumulators and multiples for our fixed odds sports service, new financial markets for both Spreadex and ShortsandLongs, and mobile sports betting later this year, we are confident we can build on these levels of growth.”
