Public Realm Environment

Perhaps nothing influences people’s perception of an area than the quality of the environment – litter, street clutter, lack of greenery and public space can all detract from the finest surrounding architecture and design.

Not surprisingly, improving the standards of environmental maintenance accounts for much of the partnership’s activity. Working closely with the City Council’s City Centre Neighbourhood Management Team and Enterprise-liverpool (the city’s joint venture partner that undertakes its streetscene maintenance contracts), Liverpool CDP’s Environment & Security Working Group has implemented the following initiatives:

  • An intensive “clean sweep” of the whole area, following which there will be a review of future street cleansing requirements in the Spring.
  • Additional weekend street washing programme, including cleaning down litter bins, doorways, etc
  • Additional footway improvements that fall outside E-L’s contractual obligations
  • Replacing the tree outside Sainsbury’s store on Old Hall St
  • Tree pruning outside No1 Old Hall St which have been causing problems to adjacent occupiers
  • Funding a group lamp replacement programme that will ensure that all street lighting throughout the district is in good working order and to a consistent and satisfactory level
  • An audit of street signs for inclusion in a programme of minor repairs to be funded by Liverpool CDP

We are also working with the Neighbourhood team to ensure that owners and occupiers are playing their part in improving the environment by promoting most practice in the management of trade waste and recycling.
